The Great Oak Hall

The Great Oak Hall, Westonbirt Arboretum

The Great Oak Hall is a magnificent 'medieval' timber-framed building built by the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum.

The Foyer, manned by Volunteers, provides a valuable information and interpretation centre for all visitors.

The auditorium provides a functional forum with an ambience unique to this glorious building and the tranquillity of Westonbirt Arboretum.

It is available for conferences, lectures, private functions, weddings, exhibitions and craft workshops.  During such events the hall will be unavailable to visitors.

The Hall seats up to a maximum of 80 people and audiovisual equipment is installed, with an induction loop to help those wearing hearing aids.

Catering is available for functions. The Maples restaurant is open all the year round.

Great Oak Hall joint detail. Photo Colin Walls The hall was constructed from 'green' oak using traditional techniques, such as dowels and wedges in preference to nails and bolts.

Some of the oaks used in construction came from Silk Wood in the Arboretum, and some were donated by Friends and local landowners.

The building is testament to the Friends' growth, a visual statement of our strength, support and faith in the future of Westonbirt, The National Arboretum.
