What our volunteers do
Our volunteers carry out a range of roles, from practical outdoor tasks and research, to helping with learning and participation. There are also roles for volunteers giving information and welcoming visitors, as well as administrative roles. Of course, our trustees are all volunteers too!
Take a look at our volunteer vacancies page to find out if there are any roles available at the moment.
In the meantime, here is a taste of the many and varied roles that Westonbirt's vibrant community of volunteers undertake in helping to protect and enhance our landscape and welcome visitors to The National Arboretum.
Practical and research roles
These include the working parties who help maintain the landscape and keep it looking good, and the wildflower group who record Westonbirt's population of wildflowers and help promote and conserve rare species. Read the story of Cathy, a Working Party volunteer.
Learning and participation roles
These roles range from working with school groups out in the grounds and in the Education Centre, to leading guided walks that help visitors broaden their understanding of the historic landscape at Westonbirt. Read the story of Sue, an Education volunteer, and John, a Guide Team Leader volunteer.
Information and administration roles
A wide range of roles, from welcoming coach parties, to providing information to our visitors at the Great Oak Hall information desk. Our volunteers also help with back-office functions and membership applications.
