About The Westonbirt Project

Our mission at Westonbirt, The National Arboretum is ‘to connect people with trees to improve the quality of life.’

People come to Westonbirt not only to wonder at the beautiful trees and landscape, but to also understand more about the important role trees play in our lives, now and in the future.

With the Westonbirt Project we plan to both maintain this special environment and to ensure Westonbirt’s survival by developing it for the future.

Our ambitions are to conserve Westonbirt’s heritage and unrivalled tree collection, enhance visitor experience and find new ways to connect people with trees.

We aim to achieve these goals through detailed conservation projects, improved visitor, education and operational facilities and a new and exciting route into our collection - the Tree Walkway and Heritage Tower.

We want to provide our visitors and staff with modern, improved facilities, which work with our landscape in harmony.

These include:

  •  Welcome Building and car parking
  •  Operations area
  •  Treetop Walkway and Heritage Tower
  •  Propagation unit
  •  Education and Learning Building
