The future of volunteering
The developments that come with the Westonbirt Project will enable us to offer more opportunities for exisiting and new volunteers and explore new areas of volunteering.
We'll be able to offer more activities for social and community groups who want to learn new skills and help make a difference.
We've already worked with the Bristol Drugs Project and the Alzheimer's Society to see how we can involve new and diverse groups in our volunteering.
Volunteers help to build a new ha-ha
In summer 2011, members of the public and volunteers had the opportunity to learn new skills by taking part in a one day workshop which helped to complete a new ha-ha boundary on the Downs.
This new ha-ha was constructed in a modern way, similar to the wall alongside the
Great Oak Hall.
Contractors completed the groundworks, foundations and supporting wall in preparation. The course participants completed part of the façade using traditional dry stone walling techniques to complete the ha-ha.
Watch this video to see Master Craftsman Richard Ingles demonstrate the skill of traditional dry stone walling.
As the Westonbirt Project progresses there will be future opportunities for volunteers to participate. In the meantime, visit the volunteering vacancies page for other opportunities to support Westonbirt Arboretum.
