Power to the project

We are literally brightening up at the news that funding has been received to upgrade our electricity supply from Phase 1 to Phase 3.

Although Westonbirt uses energy efficient bulbs where possible, the electricity supply onsite remains at its limit.

By upgrading the supply, we can avoid the power shortages which we sometimes experience and ensure that we have sufficient power to construct the new car park and Welcome Building.

Whilst we upgrade the power supply we will be taking the opportunity to move the cables underground.

This will contribute to the Westonbirt Project’s work in restoring the Grade I Registered Downs landscape, which also involves moving the existing car park and restoring it as grassland.

Work will continue until mid February 2012. Please be aware of construction vehicles and open trenches whilst this work takes place.

Work will also begin to create ‘Wigmore Mound'.

We will be extending the current gentle grass mound to the left of Holford Ride, as you look towards Westonbirt School. Extending the existing mound will reduce the visual impact of traffic on the busy A433, and will mean visitors can enjoy the view as Holford intended.

We will be using stone and top soil excavated as part of the preparatory works for the Westonbirt Project in order to create Wigmore Mound. The mound will be seeded and should start to blend into the existing surroundings in the spring.

HLS boundary restoration stages will continue in the spring.

We will start work on rebuilding our existing ha-ha as well as repairing and straightening our distinctive two bar Victorian iron railings.
