The Public Forest Estate debate and the future of Westonbirt Arboretum

What is the Public Forest Estate and why is it under threat? These are just a couple of the questions you may have about the Forestry Commission and the Government's plans for its future.

To find out more about the meaning of the Public Forest Estate and its history, you can read the article by Rod Lesley in the summer 2011 edition of the Westonbirt Magazine, or download it below.

The Trustees of the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum are in regular dialogue about the Government's proposals. In June 2011 several trustees attended an Independent Panel on Forestry workshop held in the Forest of Dean, representing the charity. You can download their subsequent submission of views to the Panel below.

On 8 December 2011 the Independent Panel on Forestry published its progress report, which you can read on the Defra website.

The Trustees would like to hear your views and those of others, so please discuss your thoughts and opinions in the Public Forest Estate debate forum.
