In simple terms Trees are vital! And at Westonbirt we have over 15,000 of them! That means we take care of enough trees to provide enough oxygen for about 150,000 people… wow that’s a lot!
So Westonbirt Arboretum is just about trees?
Trees are of course at the core of everything we do but we know how much benefit being outside and around trees can offer our local community, so we run a wealth of programmes at Westonbirt Arboretum encouraging visitors to connect with trees.
Not only is Westonbirt Arboretum a wonderful place to 'get lost in the woods' but it also provides a safe haven for vulnerable people within our communities. Those recovering from addiction or mental ill-health and young people who may be unable to visit independently can gain new skills, develop self-confidence and improve health and wellbeing due to our community programme. Westonbirt is a sanctuary where those facing difficulties in their home or school lives can feel secure to focus their energy on practical woodland projects.
The positive impact from our community sessions are in part due to the ideal environment Westonbirt offers as well as the woodland activities which build a sense of pride and achievement in our participants. Over 6,000 people have been able to access this wonderful scheme so far which we will continue to grow and develop.
