From Saplings to Shelter: A Story of Community and Craft

Nestled in the heart of Silk Wood, next to the awe-inspiring Community Shelter, the Green Woodworking Shelter stands as a testament to community collaboration and a passion for connecting people with nature through traditional woodland crafts. Proudly co-funded by The Friends in partnership with Forestry England, this beautifully designed timber and aluminium structure is more than just a shelter; it's a hub for learning, creativity, and inclusivity.

The Green Woodworking Shelter became a reality in September 2023. Architect Piers Taylor crafted a symphony of sustainability and artistry. But functionality reigns supreme. The shelter provides a weather-protected haven for green woodworking activities, complete with ample space for crucial equipment like pole lathes and shave horses. The design seamlessly complements the existing Community Shelter, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose.

Built in a mere six weeks by Pearce+, the project embodies true collaboration. Every element, from the locally milled Westonbirt oak to the recycled aluminium, embraces eco-conscious principles.

This is more than just a shelter; it's a beacon of community spirit – a testament to the transformative power of The Friends' invaluable support. Thanks to your help, the arboretum now offers a unique space for learning, creating, and connecting with nature.
