Fast Fundraising Ideas

Find out our top tips for reaching your target and beyond!

So you've signed up to fundraise for a cause you care about, the running event seemed a long way away at the time, and now you're panicking because you've only got a few weeks left to hit your target? If that sounds familiar, don't worry, we've got you covered.

Our fast fundraising ideas will have you smashing your target in no time. So you can get back to whatever it was you were doing before this… watching dog videos on Instagram?

  1. Create a Just Giving Page
Make it easy for people to donate in a click! Add a target and update your progress on social media. If you need help setting up Just Giving Page, email us and we'll be more than happy to set you up for fundraising success!

  2. Start strong with a personal Story
Share why you're doing it. For example, if you're taking part in Run for the Trees 2026, let people know why you're fundraising for Westonbirt Arboretum. Think about why the cause and event matter to you and share that. People love to connect with you honestly and they will enjoy seeing your training updates, whether it's just another date in your running calendar, or a huge milestone in your fitness journey. Remember to include photos, either of yourself or the scenery on your runs.

  3. Ask ten people for £10
It sounds simple, but it works. If your target is £100, break it up into small, manageable chunks, and approach people via text, message or in person. Pin a poster to the work noticeboard or open your bedroom window and shout it to the street.

  4. Host a nature quiz
Charge £5 entry and provide a small prize for the winner – maybe something from the Westonbirt Shop?

  5. Sell unwanted items online
It's spring and we could all do with a clear out. You'd be surprised how much money you can raise using online platforms such as Vinted, eBay or Facebook Marketplace. Plus, this activity helps clear your space and recycle too. It's a win, win, win!

  6. Match donations
Some workplaces will match their employees' fundraising. Or you could ask a generous friend to match donations up to £50, providing an extra incentive for people to give.

  7. Donate instead of a coffee
Ask friends to skip their weekend coffee (or pint) and donate the £4 instead. It's an achievable action and it adds up fast.

  8. Donor rewards
Be as creative as you want! You could offer a £5 donation in return for choosing 5 songs on your running playlist. People can be as helpful (or unhelpful) as they like, choosing five fun pop songs or five slow ones to test your resolve. Or go one bigger – perhaps if someone donates £20, you'll wear a silly costume item of their choice!

If you follow these steps, you'll have no problem reaching your fundraising target. Good luck! If you're running the Westonbirt 10k with us, send your training photos to fundraising@fowa.org.uk or tag us at @friendsofwestonbirt on Instagram and Facebook.
